The Honorable Dion G. Morrow

Judge Dion G. Morrow was born in Los Angeles, Ca. in 1932. Growing up, Dion and his family were heavily involved in their family’s church, Second Baptist Church. Dion loved reading books in the church library and often snuck off to read during his mother’s choir rehearsals. Dion was a very intelligent student and went on to rank in the 98% percentile of the Nation and earn awards such as the Negro History Week Oratorical Contest. After receiving a Speech and Debate scholarship, Dion transferred to Pepperdine College. Working several jobs to provide for his growing family was no longer feasible so he started taking night classes at Loyola Law School. After graduating, he worked with George Warren and eventually created his private practice. Due to the destruction from the Watts Riots (Aug. 11-16, 1965), Dion left his private practice and began working with community affairs. Shortly after becoming the first African American Assistant Attorney in 1975, Dion was elected into the Superior Court in 1978. He served 22 years as a Private Judge before retiring. Today, Warren suggests younger generations should focus on accomplishing their goals.
