Sandra Bryant was born and raised in South Los Angeles, between San Pedro and Central Avenue. While her mother was CME and her father was Baptist, the family eventually decided to attend All Peoples Community Center and Church, a decision that deeply impacted Sandra’s future. Her mother moved to Southern California during WWII to take advantage of new work available to women. She met her husband, Sandra’s father, there. He worked at Lockheed Aircraft for 31 years until his retirement and Sandra’s mother worked in various roles at All Peoples. Sandra’s mother was a mother to the community. She believed in caring for other people, taking on responsibility, and being a voice for the voiceless. Inspired by her mother’s example, Sandra decided to study Social Work, going on to receive a graduate degree from the University of Tennessee. Her first position after graduating was with Crenshaw Consortium where she worked with youth referred by the Juvenile justice system and learned the importance of the family structure. After working there for four years, Sandra was approached by the Executive Director of All Peoples asking if she’d like to take over the position. As director, Sandra wanted to continue the founder, Dan Genung’s, vision for a multiracial and multicultural church that offered services to the community. With Sandra’s leadership, All Peoples offers childcare and youth programming, financial literacy, food distribution, senior volunteer programs, college preparation programs, and more resources for the surrounding community. Sandra believes in the importance of community centers not only for philanthropy, but as organizations that form future leaders. She advises young people to never give up, even when they make mistakes, because they always have the ability to make a change for the positive.
